These Tigers are Taking Their Lumps

After an impressive opening to the season, the Towson University men’s soccer team has dropped its last three matches.

A gutsy 4-3 loss to a talented Rutgers team, followed by three straight victories to start the season had the Tigers looking sharp early on.

Yet, after falling to local rival UMBC, 1-0, the Tigers lost their next two matches.  Another 1-0 loss to Loyola (Md.) and a disappointing 4-1 loss to William & Mary at home.

Playing three matches in 11 days, being tired would be the likely excuse after three straight losses.  Yet, coach Frank Olszewski told, “William & Mary is a good team and they were sharper, especially at the beginning of the game.”

Towson isn’t going to make excuses for itself, no good program will.  But the road doesn’t get any easier with conference away matches versus Drexel and George Mason looming.

The offense has shown signs of life this season, tallying plenty of shots; although the Tigers can’t seem to put them on frame.

Towson will return home for four matches in October.  I plan to attend at least two of them.  No matter how much soccer I have played, watched or written about it is crucial that I get out to see this team play live.  Schedules have been conflicting to this point in the season, for that I must reiterate that my opinion can only be taken with a grain of salt to this point.

I eagerly await their return.  Until then…
