Get well Charlie.

No school work or ramblings this time.  If you have not heard by now U.S. national team 23-year-old forward, Charlie Davies was in a terrible auto accident early Tuesday morning.  Driving along George Washington Memorial Parkway at about 3:15 a.m., the vehicle containing Davies and two other people crashed, tearing the SUV in half

The name of the driver has yet to be released.  One passenger, a 22-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  Davies was flown by helicopter to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Davies is still in the hospital and will likely be for atleast another week.  The U.S. will try to regain focus as they face Costa Rica in D.C. tonight.  For those who are attending you are encouraged to go here and print out the no.9 sign and hold it up during the entire ninth minute of the match.

It’s a terrible thing to happen to such a promising young man, let alone athlete.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Davies, the driver, and the girl who was killed as well as thier families.

Get well Chuck…

Senate Calls in the Bigwhigs to Talk Journalism Future

Posted in Uncategorized on September 29, 2009 by dtopp18

In an effort to stabilize the suffering journalism industry, the U.S. Senate met with several prominent journalists.  These people included: David Simon, former Baltimore Sun writer and creator of the The Wire, Arianna Huffington, founder of The Huffington Post, and Steve Coll, Pulitzer Prize winner and President of the New America Foundation.

Coll opened his statement by saying journalism has entered a stage of “creative destruction”, a term used by economist Joseph Schumpeter, it’s kind of an oxymoron.

A once proud and plentiful paper, the Baltimore Sun, now finds itself releasing a newspaper consisting of a mere two, maybe three sections for its daily print edition.

For more than a decade the print edition of newspapers worldwide has gradually been suffering.  This decline has been evident in some papers more so than others.JohnEisenberg

“What happened at the Sun was awful, especially the way it was handled,” said John Eisenberg, a former Sun sports staff writer.
